Wondering a few Things

Post by Babygirl » Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:33 am

Hi, I'm Jamie and am just getting into paganism. I have a few questions and hope that you will be able to help me. My first question is how do I start discovering what element I am? Basically, I could use a mentor to help me on my way. If anyone has ideas please feel free to let me know. Thanks.

Research, introspection, and Meditation.

A good book is "Elemental Witch" by Tammy Sullivan. It talks about things like personality traits, habits, moods and how they all show what element you are best suited for. It also talks about places of power for each element and why...a basic overview on Gods/Goddesses associated with each element.

Another source is to do research on your Astrological Sign...and see if there's a connection there. Otherwise, just meditate and open yourself up a little to the guardians of the Elements, something will speak to you.
You say "Witch" like it's a bad thing!

Thank you so much. Can I get that book at a metaphysical shop or where can I find it at?

Hello. If you read the older posts you might find areas of interest to start studying. Read lots online and from a library that's my advice. Perhaps get a notebook to write down your ideas and thoughts as you learn. Welcome to the boards :-)

I got mine at a Books-a-million, but Barnes & Nobles or Borders can probably find it.

Amazon or Half.com would be an option too, if you don't mind a used copy.

Another thing is to simply study the attributes of the elements and the actual manifestations thereof, i.e. flames, earth/stones/plants, wind/breeze, river/creek/ocean/pond and meditate on them. Find the one(s) that you feel the strongest connection to.

And as a secondary side note... study from a LOT of different sources and take everything with "a grain of salt". Find the parts that you connect with the most, the parts that you feel most comfortable and in tune with. Then go with those parts. Paganism is as much experiential as it is a formal practice. It's organic and grows and works best when tailored to the individual or group.

Blessings and good luck
